这是出自99年底老头子的一场纪念赛，由曼联对明星队，明星队的阵容包含了里奥（当时还在西汉姆）、拉尔森、加斯科因、卡福等人，教练则是当时拜仁慕尼黑的名帅希斯菲尔德。不过这不是我要说的重点，重点是比赛还剩20分钟的时候，明星队的队员换成了曼联的传奇球员们，舒梅切尔、坎通纳、罗布森、布鲁斯、帕里斯特、休斯、李.夏普等等全部登场，甚至还有老头的儿子达伦。现役球员和传奇球员的PK非常有意思，尤其3代7号同场（同队）竞技很是让人感慨万千。而那20分钟的比赛里，传奇队宝刀未老，以2：1战胜了现役队（全场比赛则是明星队4：2获胜），尤其休斯梅开二度，给小弟们上了一课XDDD

Fergie's testimonial played for laughs

Manchester United's heroes past and present combined with a host of international stars to produce a good-humoured testimonial for manager Sir Alex Ferguson, which the Rest of the World XI won 4-2.

Nearly 55,000 supporters packed into Old Trafford to pay tribute to the most successful manager in the club's history and welcome back the likes of Eric Cantona and Peter Schmeichel with roof-raising roars of approval.

The event was capped with the fielding of a team consisting entirely of Manchester United's past greats - and David Beckham - for the last 20 minutes.

Vialli strikes again

After the match, Ferguson took to the centre of the pitch to thank the assembled players and the crowd, saying: "I'm a very lucky manager to be able to see this collection of great players I've had the privilege to manage."

He stands to make anything up to ?m from the occasion, although a proportion of the final sum will go to charity.

Among the football greats watching the celebration of Ferguson's 13 years in charge were Walter Smith, Graeme Souness, Joe Royle, Danny Wilson, Brian Little and Joe Kinnear.

The scoring was opened for the Rest of the World by Gianluca Vialli, the man who masterminded Chelsea's 5-0 thrashing of the treble winners in their last Premiership match, but it did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the players or fans.

George Weah set the event alight as he put former Brazilian international Cafu through on the right, who crossed for Vialli's relatively simple tap-in.

Dwight Yorke did his best to level the score a short time later, but ended up clattering into Schmeichel as the goalkeeper collected the ball. The great Dane has clearly mellowed as the two players stood up and exchanged some friendly banter before going their separate ways.

Nicky Butt and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were narrowly wide with a couple of shots before Phil Neville crossed to Teddy Sheringham, who banged the ball in the back of the net then jumped on Schmeichel's back to celebrate.

After the interval, which came a minute or two early, any pretence of a serious match was abandoned. Cantona and Schmeichel left the field, with the Frenchman's replacement, Careca, firing the Rest of the World ahead after 50 minutes.

Manchester's players took the matter of going a goal down with uncharacteristic indifference, with even goalkeeper Raimond van der Gouw almost remembering not to get upset at his defenders' lackadaisical approach.

The clown prince of goalkeepers and a personal friend of Cantona's, Pascal Olmeta, turned in another eccentric performance to match that of last season's testimonial in Munich.

He spent almost as much time taking the ball on at Manchester's defenders as he did making acrobatic saves, notably pulling out two brilliant stops to block Paul Scholes and Denis Irwin.

After 68 minutes, the entire Rest of the World XI was substituted for a team consisting of former Manchester United stars, with the notable exception of a cameo by Beckham, returning from a hamstring injury.

Cantona and Schmeichel returned alongside Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Bryan Robson and Mark Hughes, who put his side 3-1 ahead with an audacious volley on 74 minutes.

Hughes squandered the opportunity to put Cantona on the scoresheet on 84 minutes, instead curling the ball artistically around the defence and into the top right hand side of the Manchester goal to make it 4-1.

But the Frenchman - whose most notable contribution to the night was falling over while completely unmarked to good-natured cheers from the crowd - did not seem to mind.

Paul Scholes ambled through the Rest of the World's defence to pull one back for the home side, before the referee decided he had seen enough and blew the whistle with a minute to go.
