United’s Reserves were taught a simple lesson in Thursday evening’s defeat to Wigan Athletic – kill games off when you have the chance.
Having dominated the early exchanges without making a breakthrough, United fell behind but then looked set to push on after David Gray’s 80th-minute equaliser. Although Cameron Stewart struck the bar, Wigan broke away a minute later to steal the points.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a habit of taking chances as a player, and he wants his side to live by that mantra after seeing the Latics snatch an unlikely victory.
“In games like this when you play that well and create chances, you have to take the chances,” Ole told MUTV after the match. “That’s the lesson they have to learn from tonight – that you have to kill the games off when you can.
“When they scored I think our lads changed their approach a bit. They tried to do things they shouldn’t do and we didn’t keep playing the way we wanted to. That’s a learning curve, it’s nothing but education if you take the right lessons from it.”
果然,之前的热身赛虽然不败,但正式的联赛才是真正的硬仗,目前联赛战绩一平一负,小索和甜菜们都要好好加油了!><
United 1 Wigan 2: Last-minute Latics stun Solskjaer’s second string
A rare moment of real quality from Wigan’s Irish forward Craig Mahon in the final minute of an otherwise scrappy match condemned Ole Solskjaer to a first defeat as reserves manager just minutes after David Gray’s headed equaliser seemed to have preserved the Norwegian’s unbeaten record. Matty Hampson had earlier given the Latics the lead just after the interval in a match that saw both sides hampered by the near-torrential Northwich rain.
Solskjaer was forced into making five changes to the side that started the 0-0 draw with Blackburn. Ben Foster missed out due to the twisted ankle he picked up in that game, the knock Rafael da Silva suffered on Champions League duty on Tuesday night removed him from the United boss’ plans (his impressive first-team performances may have done that anyway…), while Rodrigo Possebon was absent due to the injury picked up in the Carling Cup game with Middlesbrough last week. Danny Welbeck and Danny Drinkwater were unavailable after being called up by England U19s (although Welbeck was in the crowd). OGS was also deprived of the services of Ben Amos (for the same reason as Welbeck and Drinkwater) and Fábio da Silva (shoulder injury), as well as long-term absentee Danny Galbraith.
Ole Happy With United Youth In Boro Game
Sir Alex Ferguson mixed youth with experience to ensure victory over Premiership side Middlesbrough in the 3rd Round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as reserve boss, is now charged with preparing the second string for senior duty and he sees Arsenal's burgeoning youth policy as a test. The Red legend refuses to get into a `We're better than you' war but said: "We all like a challenge. I think it is important to see young kids come through wherever they are playing.
"All I know from our perspective is that the quality is there.
"There are huge demands on players at United, but I think there are loads in the Under-16s and Under-18s and the reserve teams who we will see play in the first team.
"It is not like they won't get a chance here. It is the tradition and we have some great players coming through who will keep that tradition going.Film tribute to Ryan Giggs
Chris Osuh
18/ 9/2008CELEBRITY Reds fans and Old Trafford idols paid tribute to Ryan Giggs at a star-studded premiere of a film about his life.
"Ryan Giggs - True Red", takes an in-depth look at the winger's stellar 17 years as a professional at Manchester United.
The film, soon to be released as a DVD, was launched at the Odeon in the Printworks, and drew stars from the worlds of football, pop, and television.
As the guests made their way up the red carpet, fans lined the barriers, clamouring for a glimpse of their idols.
The event had all the atmosphere of a party in honour of Giggs' unique achievements.
And the guest list was not simply a who's who of the Manchester United first team with celebrity fans including Ian Brown, Angus Deayton and Peter Hook joining the fray.
But the club was also out in force with Carlos Tevez, Ronaldo, Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand, Anderson, Nani, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic, Park Ji-Sung, Dimitar Berbatov, Owen Hargreaves, Jonny Evans, John O'Shea Michael Carrick all in attendance.
预备队联赛的第一场比赛,没能取得胜利,大本也伤了...
希望下一场比赛小索和甜菜们加油!
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reserve side had to settle for a point from their first league game of the season as several players failed to perform to the standard they had set for themselves in pre-season. United never really got going in an attacking sense and the visitors had the better chances in a game arguably most notable for another injury to Reds keeper Ben Foster.
Fresh from Champions League bench duty last night, Foster started in goal as Solskjaer fielded the same back five as in the Reds’ last competitive game (the 2-0 MSC win over Bury), albeit with David Gray tucking inside at centre-half and Richard Eckersley patrolling the left flank. The five-man midfield behind lone striker Danny Welbeck was made up entirely of central midfielders, emphasising the terrific strength in depth in that position in the reserve and youth ranks but also the glaring lack of wide players available.

Reserves: Brum 3 United 3
United’s Reserves roared back from the brink of defeat to draw with a strong Birmingham City second string at St Andrews on Tuesday evening.
The Reds trailed 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining, but struck twice to ensure an unbeaten pre-season campaign and stretch Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s unyielding record as manager.
Against a Brum side containing first team regulars like Cameron Jerome, Marcus Bent and Gary McSheffrey, United’s young side were posed plenty of questions, and found themselves a goal down inside three minutes.
David Gray, operating at centre-back for the evening, was perhaps harshly adjudged to have taken out Jerome inside the area, and McSheffrey beat Tomasz Kuszczak from the spot to put the hosts ahead.
好久没见到小索了orz 他依然是那么滴可爱!><(废话|||)
Ole backs Berbatov buy
If it takes one to know one, then nobody should doubt Ole Solskjaer's assessment of Dimitar Berbatov as a quality striker.
Solskjaer's goalscoring exploits spanned 11 years at United before injury forced him to retire and take up his current post as reserves coach. His career included, of course, the epic campaign of 1998/99 when Sir Alex Ferguson rotated four top strikers in winning three major honours.9月3号预备队2-0击败了巴里队,小王子和小聪明进球(吉索的两只儿子XDDD)><
小索继续不败~
03/09/2008 18:57, Report by Gemma ThompsonReserves: Bury 0 United 2
United got off to the perfect start in the defence of the Manchester Senior Cup with a 2-0 victory at Bury.
Goals from Magnus Eikrem and Tom Cleverley earned the Reds a deserved win at a rain-lashed Gigg Lane and helped maintain the unbeaten run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United were always in control of proceedings with Ben Foster a virtual spectator throughout. Chris Mason headed Bury's only meaningful effort, after 25 minutes, off target.
By that point the visitors were already a goal to the good after Eikrem had curled an excellent free-kick round the wall from just outside the box on 16 minutes.
United were rarely out of second gear after the break, and sealed the win on 65 minutes through Tom Cleverley who finished neatly after a good passing move involving Richard Eckersley and Eikrem. It was easily the best bit of football of the match.

Reserves roar back again
For the third time in pre-season, United's Reserves fought back from a two-goal deficit to avoid defeat - this time against Chelsea.
Late strikes from Fabio da Silva and Darron Gibson - the latter from the penalty spot - preserved Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's unbeaten record since taking the second string's helm.
United looked decidedly off-colour in the opening exchanges, and Jacob Mellis beat the Reds' offside trap to slot the hosts ahead just after the half-hour.
Ben Amos was again beaten in first half injury time, and again he had no chance as Scott Sinclair powered home a fine header from Carl Magnay's cross.
The Reds' occasional menace became a constant threat after the interval, however, and Blues goalkeeper Rhys Taylor had to be alert to save fine efforts from Danny Drinkwater and Kiko Macheda.
